Transit - (23) Comments
Do you take transit to work? How long does it take you? Where else do you take the bus? Do you have a transit pass? Do you use ACCESS? Do you feel safe on transit? Are the drivers courteous and helpful? Is there anything we can do to improve transit and how would that help?

Southeast LRT - Now!
The West LRT should not have been started until after we built the first leg of the Southeast LRT... The first leg of the Southeast LRT can run from Downtown (10th Avenue SE and Olympic Way SE) to Quarry Park, without the need to build the 8th Avenue Subway beforehand. As the province has just announced new funding for transit projects, NOW IS THE TIME TO GET STARTED ON THE SOUTHEAST LRT!

C-Trains: - more frequent to help increase ridership - more checks for fare payment to pay for it - more lines (North - Central; SE Line, Extenstion to YYC Airport) - more stations (i.e. add "missing stations," like between Brentwood & Dalhousie for Northland Drive NW) - underground downtown (not "on" 7th Avenue SW, where so many have lost their lives)

transit
Routinely late busses even at off peak hours.Invariably rude, surly and unhelpful drivers. This is a third tier system at best.comparable to riding in a cattle transporter.Of course that doesnt stop transit personel from insisting that we the paying public need to support them in their collective bargaining every three years(which just happens to occur in election years more often than not).Break up this useless union and pay and promote transit personel on the basis of merit. And while you're at it,make a more transparent disciplinary procedure.

GPS on buses!
I understand that it is nearly impossible to keep buses running on time in the winter. The problem is, I have no way of knowing if a bus is going to be late or not when I'm standing outside in minus 30 degree weather! I'd love it if buses were equipped with GPS locators so that I could call or text to see when exactly my bus is coming. It sucks to stand there for 45 minutes...and I have...hoping the bus comes soon because my class is starting and my toes are frozen. Winnipeg just put GPS on their buses--let's keep up with the trend!

transit
Dear Mr. Kassam, After 40 years I moved out of Calgary by choice. I needed to be able to phone a free/cheap emergency transit vehicle eg a volkswagon, (not driven by crude joking drivers) maybe females? when I had been outside for exactly 35 minutes in minus 20(plus) Frozen bone marrow rots, necrosis causes leukemia -like weakness, had to quitmy job. To avoid needing the "serveece" rides, one would have to let the buses go from suburb to suburb, even then, so many holes in the needs...mostly we need more booked specialty rides, do detailed surveys for years to work this out, hire professional library scientists to sort out the facts. Where a group regularly suffers, there could be pick ups, eg large employers who let their peeps go at say 920pm. We didn't get home til up to 1230 if you add

transit/LRT
So again the NE is shafted. Even though per capita the NE population depend on transit and don't drive, still no direct trains from NE to NW and vice versa ... but South and NW have direct trains. 1.5 hour commute (3 transfers) from NE to NW is ridiculous. Planners should be ashamed
-
Later Trains
The last train to the NW is also the last time to the SW on the Crowfoot/Somerset train. At night, the NW c-train leaves before last call at downtown bars. I think we can eliminate so many drunk driving accidents and even the temptation to drink and drive if we either put a train running north after 2:00 AM. If cost is an issue, I think it's important to at least put later a train on high traffic nights (Friday, Saturday, New Years, etc). Ideally, I think we should have 24 hour c-train operation like other large Canadian cities but later trains would be a start. I'm unfamiliar with the timing schedule of the NE train line but they should not be excluded either. We need later trains to reduce accidents!

Transit maps confusing
As we start out new school year, we're having issues just finding what stops/times we're supposed to be at the stop. It gives you a too simple of a map, and only two times for the bus, departure from the terminal and arrival at the school. You can always find the route on Google maps, but to find the time is almost impossible to guess.

Transit Now and Tomorrow
We live in an age where, with the advancement of human creativity and resultant technology, more and more is available to us "high speed", "get it now", "fast approvals". It seems that society is re-programming itself for speed; "faster and faster" could be the mantra. With that topic in mind, one is reminded now and again of the need "to increase ridership" in transit... as a viable "green" alternative and a suggested means of reducing traffic congestion, and other reasons... . Heres one which seems to have not been addressed; "Transit 'N Traffic Do Not Mix!" Calgary Transit "officials" would like ridership - increased!?; Citizens want to get where they're going - "fast"!? The logical solution would be to get transit "out of traffic"! Wherever possible, either elevate above or tunnel below and separate transit from traffic! This is 2010! People should not have their journey penalized by the lack of a swift transit infrastructure. Here are some possible solutions; 1. Transit removed from street surfaces frees up extra lanes for vehicular traffic 2. During "off peak" periods, said extra lanes provide more spaces for parking 3. More space is usable for designated bike lanes 4. With transit vehicles off the streets, they would not be regulated by traffic control devices - thus, "speedier service" 5. Less wear and tear on surface roadways 6. Decreased idling of buses at traffic lights 7. In the form of "elevated busways", this system could be constructed using locally available materials when feasible and practicle 8. The whole system can be implemented on-going as

I have lived in Calgary most of my live and transit still has the same issues now as it did then the first and biggest is this concept that all transit must go to the core first then out to the suburbs. What percentage of jobs/businesses/homes are in the core? So why is transit focused on the sending everyone through the core. GPS service would be a welcome addition to service and running, atleast the trains, 24/7. We do live in a 24/7 society, services should keep up.

Ms. Smith
I work at the Rockyview Hospital. The route 20 Heritage/Northmount feeds Rockyview and Foothills hospitals. The last bus leaves Rockyview at 11pm weekdays. I have to catch a connector bus on Crowchild and 54AVE SW. The problem is that if I don't get the 11pm I miss the connector bus. I can no longer work evening shifts because of this. The next problem is weekend service: I can'tget #20 Heritage until 7am. I start workat 7am so I have to take a taxi;expensive and inconvient!! We live in a city of over a million people and we have a transit system that is geared towards the corprate sector. A large percentage of the work force in this city either don't drive and don't work 9-5. Cities like Vancouver,Toronto, montreal have 24hr transit!!The city needs to lok at these issues;major routes and who they serve. We have tried several times as a group at the Rockyview to contact Calgary Transit about these concerns: no response. I thank you for reading my concer and wish yo well in the upcoming election. Transit Issues
It takes me over an hour to get to work and an hour to get back home on transit. If I drive it takes me 20 minutes. The price of parking is very expensive when combined with taking transit
-
Ms. Charlotte
My issue is with the times the buses run until. We are now a major city, with a work force that works the night now. We need to take a look at city's like say, Toronto, Montreal, and understand that having a transit system that stops running at Midnight is absurd. I'm not saying we need regular service during the night. But any service would be nice.

Skyview Ranch Area CT bus service
There is no transit service in Skyview Ranch Area. Even if transit starts service with a small bus service, it would really assist citizens living in that community until Metis trail is opened.

$$$
Every year they've added another twenty-five cents to the transit fairs but without any real reason for it and without really improving the system all that much. Sure gas has gone up and they've added some staff and did some upgrades, but I don't think they can justify the current price with the level of service. We are on par with Vancouver and Toronto, yet they have more customers and more staff as they are larger cities and they deliver a much better service for the price. I think if Calgary Transit wants us to pay $2.75 for ninety minutes in transit, then they'd better up the service, because right now I don't feel I'm getting my money's worth, and I doubt I'm the only one.

year2010
Calgary has definately neglected transit for too long. Lack of routes, removal of routes, running every train line through the downtown, increase of fares, payment of parking at stations are all situations not condusive to better transit. In comparison to other with increased infrastructure, Calgary's system is similar to "The little engine that could" just puttering along, "I think i can, i think i can." Increase train lines outside of downtown, Eliminate tickets and passes and introduce swipe cards, move lines underground or in the air so they don't conflict with roadways. In my opinion, any candidate for mayor should have spent alteast a month of their life commuting to work at rush hour traffic via. Calgary Transit.

The ParkNRide Fees need to be abolished immediately. That is NOT an effective way of encouraging transit-use. It was irresponsible for the existing Council to raise those fees, especially since they don't use transit - they all get heating parking stalls subsidized by the taxpayer!

Calgary Transit in Winter
All vehicles in Canada are supposed to specially designed to deal with winter. Why is it then, with Calgary Transit that when every winter season comes, all hell breaks loose and everything is late??? There has to be some problems somewhere. Our tax dollars goes into funding public transit. We need better transit system that can survive winter!
