Cycling - (6) Comments
Do you use a bicycle to get to work? How long does it take you? Do you use one for recreation? How often do you ride? Do we have enough bike paths? Are you looking for a bicycle commuter route? Do you feel safe on the streets as a cyclist? Do you feel safe around bikes as a pedestrian or driver?
Alnoor's Position On This Issue
Commuting by bicycle is a healthy, environmentally friendly option enjoyed by many Calgarians I have spoken to… but we need dedicated lanes to make it easier for both the drivers and the cyclists. Maybe it’s time we stopped just talking about it.

Wider, Safer Bike Paths
I'd like to see wider, safer bike paths for everyone who bikes, walks, runs, or walks their dog in Calgary.

My issues
Where do I start? I've lived in Calgary my whole life, and just absolutely love the city. I also like to support the guy I can relate to - I'm an business owner myself. But, I've got a few issues that just don't seem to be getting dealt with. I bike in to downtown from Coventry in the mornings, which is more or less because I've had so many close calls on the drive-in in the mornings that I'd rather take my chances with the pavement on the bike path. I was in Copenhagen and Amsterdam last fall, and couldn't believe, in the cold weather they were having, how many people were actually cycling. It was crazy! And, it seems that cyclists and motorists co-habitate nicely. So, that said - my two issues that would guarantee two votes (my fiance is on me with this): 1) create

French Book Store Clerk
I think that bike paths are wonderful for leisure but they are useless for commuting to work. I have to ride in the streets in order to arrive to work in a decent time, cycling across the city. Why is it that city council keeps rejecting the idea of a north-south, east-west bike highway? It is always set aside as an unimportant issue. Are motorist the only ones who are entitled to a better transport system? Cyclist are part of the city and they pay tax like everyone else so they should have paths that work when it is their main mode of transportation to work and around the city.

Cyclists & Commuting
I cycle to work every day and it takes me less time by taking the streets then by taking the bike paths. Several years ago we tried to have a petition for a bike highway for north to south. That would be nice to have so we can commute like the cars, so we don't have to go all around them.
